
WHAT WE DO IN FIRST STEP FOR CHILDREN INITIATIVES
We promote the recognition and acceptance of the rights of women and children and ensure that children have the best possible prospects for survival, development, protection and participation. In order to achieve the above we have strategically mapped out these key areas of operation:
Early Childhood Care and Development: This program offers all supports necessary for every child at the community level from conception until 8 years to realize his/her rights to survival, protection and care that will ensure optimal care.
Access to Girls Education: We provide all support necessary to encourage girls participation and achievements in schools and ensuring learning environment is protective of pupils especially girls, teaching is effective and the community is involved in all activities and program.
CRC/CRA/CEDAW Implementation: We are set to hold periodic sensitization meetings with key groups in communities (youth, women, leaders, men) to ensure adherence to the laws in the Child Rights Act (CRA), and issues/articles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), and also generate community wide awareness on the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) towards an improved life for community children and develop community based program for the implementation.
Youth Participation and Empowerment: The main focus of this unit is supporting initiatives in providing equal opportunities and quality education among youths in and out of school. It is also strategic to the development of fellowship, leadership skills, accountability, patriotism, creativity, positive attitudes and good value system among in and out of school youth as well as promoting the use of information and communication technology in all aspects of teaching and learning in secondary school.
Awareness Building on HIV/AIDS and other disease burden: The unit supports the participation of parents, children and youths to develop programs for positive behavior change towards prevention, care and management of HIV/AIDS infected and affected in rural communities. it also mitigate the impact of other disease burden that affects children.
Coordination: The unit will ensure strengthening institutional capacity for development planning, monitoring and evaluation procurement of project equipment directly related to the implementation of the project. Logistic support will be provided to enhance coordination role.
