In order to achieve the above objectives, FIRST has strategically mapped out these key areas of operation

HEALTH; The unit supports the participation of caregivers/ parents, children and youths to develop programs for positive behavior change towards prevention, promotive health care services. This will include knowledge, skills and practice of personal hygiene, Education of parents/caregivers/children on the importance of and methods of preventive healthcare (common childhood illnesses, immunizations, proper hygiene, and de-worming, preventing malaria) increase access to safe water and sanitation. The activity will also provide Information about adolescent and women reproductive health needs, including HIV/AIDS and STI awareness and prevention. And Promoting access to curative health care for the treatment of common childhood illnesses such as malaria, diarrhea etc will be supported.

EDUCATION; The unit will focus on 3 types of education formal, informal and no formal. Beneficiaries will be given the opportunity to become respectful global citizens, to contribute to their economic well-being and that of their families and communities to explore and understand different perspectives. This unit will also be looking at enrolment, retention and smooth transition into basic and tertiary institution including access to early child care and development, children in primary school, junior secondary and senior secondary schools (SSCE).

LIVELIHOOD (EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMS, SKILLS ACQUISITION); The units will equipped beneficiaries on all our programs to be self-reliant and also change their mind set from dependence to becoming more productive and useful to the society. The unit leverage support from federal government and state poverty and private sector on poverty alleviation program like the NDE to support beneficiaries

PEACE BUILDING; The unit will seek to address community action on the underlying community causes on conflict, helping people and community to resolve their differences peacefully and lay the foundation to prevent future violence. Peace building will include early warning and response efforts, violence prevention and advocacy including humanitarian assistance, cease fire agreement and the establishment of peace zone.

PROTECTION; The unit will prevent and respond to approaches in line with child protection minimum standards and provide mental health and psychosocial; support services through age-and gender based- tailored minimum packages including skill education for adolescence, positive parenting for caregivers and specialized mental health services. The unit will also ensure people living in humanitarian emergencies are protected from explosive ordinances and needs of victim are realize.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

  1. 🞄 To promote community action on nutrition, WASH, Sexual reproductive health, MNCH, HIV/AID and STI, other disease endemic and pandemic prevention, care and support and impact mitigation;
  2. 🞄 To facilitate the acquisition of all forms of education by all those eligible with a particular focus on the girl child in Nigeria that will include access and quality education.
  3. 🞄 To support strategies which seek to increase opportunities for youth empowerment, with particular emphasis on the girl child.
  4. 🞄 To facilitate the prevention and mitigate conflict through peace building processes and informal dialogue
  5. 🞄 To mitigate Protection risk from limited or no access to basic services that build on existing collaboration and strengthen community resilience that respond to GBV

STRATEGIC APPROACHES

  • 1. EVIDENCE BASED ADVOCACY, POLICY ENGAGEMENT AND INFLUENCING

    All our advocacy work must use evidence based data that must be verify with concrete information as proof to trigger change. All data used for advocacy must be gathered, organized and analyze to produce clear and accessible information which can influence leaders and decision makers.

  • 2. DEMAND CREATION AND COMMUNITY MOBILIZATION/ENGAGEMENT

    First step will work to increase awareness and demand for services or products among our target audience through social and behavior change. The strategy will be used to enhance personal communication in our interventions.

  • 3. PARTNERSHIP (NETWORKING/COLLABORATION)

    This entails the adoption of collaboration strategies among states, LG and government agencies in the area of information sharing, prosecution, implementing projects, and advocacy. First step will always work with two or more organization that will come together to implement an intervention in order to achieve a common goal that is effective in a timely manner. This will improve the efficiency of our work. The collaboration and partnership will include training, sharing of work space, workshops, transportation or anything else related to the mission that will reduce provide stability( both financial and non-financial while achieving shared goals) Capacity development (Trainings, Mentoring, Coaching). First step will focus on strengthening organizational sustainability that will build the organization in a more complex environment. This learning will extend to other organization through peer learning.

  • 4. SERVICE DELIVER

    All the service delivery approach will address how activities will be carried out. The approach will identify and describe resources, processes and interfaces that are essential to successful service delivery overtime. The service delivery approach will include collaboration and partnership, technology, policy change and development, capacity building and systematic change and integration.

  • 5. BEHAVIOR CHANGE COMMUNICATION (BCC)

    All activities for BCC will be developed based on needs assessments, sound educational principles and periodic evaluation. The BCC will be used in the prevention of both communicable and non-communicable disease in clinical settings and public health. The strategy will also be used to triggers people/society/communities to adopt healthy, beneficial and positive behavioral practices.

  • 6. PARTICIPATORY MONITORING AND EVALUATION

    All stakeholders at various levels will be involved as active participants in monitoring or evaluation of all projects, program or policy, share control over the content, the process and the results of the monitoring and evaluation activity. They will be encouraged to take the lead in tracking. A participatory decisions will be taken that will promote effective implementation.

  • 7. RESEARCH

    The organization wills continuously increase knowledge through research to solve an inquiry problem. The 3 main methods to conduct research will be used are quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods. All research results must be disseminated.
